The legendary batsmen from South Africa, Superman AB de Villiers become the fastest batsman to reach 9000 ODI runs. In 3rd ODI against New Zealand today South African captain AB de Villiers touched this landmark which was previously achieved by Indian batsman Sourav Ganguly. The record was broken almost after 13 years and now AB de Villiers holds fastest 9000 ODI runs record.

Sourav Ganguly achieved this record in his 228th ODI inning against Australia in 2004 Melbourne. In last 13 years 11 players completed their 9000 ODI runs but no one was as quick as Sourav Ganguly. Before ABD the latest one was Indian Batsman MS Dhoni who crossed 9000 runs mark in ODI. MS Dhoni completed his 9000 runs against New Zealand in his 244th Inning and not even top 5 fastest batsmen list to completed 9000 ODI runs.

AB de Villiers completed 9000 ODI runs in just 205 innings. If we calculate fastest 9000 ODI runs in terms of time taken from ODI debut than he isn’t the quickest. Rahul Dravid still holds this record who completed 9000 ODI runs in 9 years 322 days. Ab de Villiers is also amongst top 5 batsman for having highest batting average in ODI cricket.

AB de Villiers is the only second South African player to reach 9000 ODI runs. Before ABD Jaques Kallis was the first South African to reach this milestone in 242 Innings. In top 10 fastest players to reach 9000 ODI runs list Indian players are completely dominating it. 4 out of 10 players are Indian and they are Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid.

AB De Villiers is only 33 years old and holds so many records including fastest batsmen to score a ODI century in just 31 balls. He doesn’t seem to take retire any time soon and his next target would be 10000 ODI runs. In April VIVO IPL 2017 will start and fans are waiting to see him in RCB jersey.
