Rangana Herath Became Highest Wicket Taker as Left Arm Spinner

Sri Lankan left arm spinner 38 years old Rangana Herath breaks Danile Vettori’s record against Bangladesh in test match cricket and became highest wicket taker as left arm spinner. Now Rangana Herath has 366 wickets in his portfolio. Daniel Vettori’s previous record was 362 wickets in test match cricket. Rangana Herath tool only 79 matches to break this record where Vettori took 113 test matches to achieve it.

If we talk about all left arm bowlers records than only Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram is ahead of Rangana Herath with 414 wickets. Rangana Herath broke many more records against Bangladesh.

Rangana Herath became the second bowler to get maximum 5 wicket haul at any venue. He has 9 five wicket haul at Galle behind Muttiah Muralitharan. Murali has 14 at SSC, 11 at Kandy & Galle. He broke Ian Botham’s record eight five wicket hauls at lords.

Rangana Herath is also first Sri Lankan captain who won all first 3 test matches as captain. Before Bangladesh test match he won both test matches in Harare. Sri Lanka played 17 test matches with Bangladesh and they have won 15 tests which is their most wins against any team. On other hand Bangladesh has 15 losses against Sri Lanka was also most against by any team.

Apart from this Sri Lanka won their 6 consecutive test matches at home – equals second highest winning streak. In 2001 & 2002 Sri Lanka have won 10 successive home tests. In 2006 and 2007 Sri Lanka won consecutive 6 test matches at home before losing to India by 2-1.
